Renewing or Updating of Vintage Jewlery
From time to time I receive requests to repair or restring items for people. Most of the jewelry originally came from a relative and has special meaning. A friend of mine brought me such a project in the spring of 2006. Her dad had given her sisters strands of beads he had purchased on a trip abroad.

Her dad had passed away earlier that year, so she wanted to do something special with them. An aunt had passed away also and had left charm bracelets that were to be used as well. The project was to make bracelets and matching earrings for each of her sisters, her mom, and a sister-in-law. A charm and color scheme was chosen for each person’s bracelet to fit their personality and tastes. Sizes were guessed at, since this was to be a surprise. I had to add some beads, and spacers to some of the bracelets, but overall the new items were made with the beads from her dad’s gift that was given many years earlier.

My friend helped design and string some of the bracelets which I then finished. We made six bracelets altogether with matching earrings. The average cost of each bracelet was $17.00, but I am sure the recipients thought they were priceless.
